But a local prima donna with a quarrelsome character offers Lisa the place of a "person involved" - an ordinary actress in the crowd, and then completely refuses Sinichkin, not allowing any rivalry on stage.

Lev Gurych, who does not want to back down, resorts to trickery and deceit, trying to replace Surmilova with his Lisa at the next performance.
